Bill Methenitis joins the team

Charter Brokerage is pleased to announce that Bill Methenitis has joined the Charter team as International Trade Counsel. Bill has recently retired after 15 years as a principal at Ernst & Young, where for the past seven years he was the global leader of EY’s Global Trade practice. Bill will be working with Charter on a part time basis, and is continuing to work with EY part-time to serve existing clients.

Bill has more than 35 years’ experience with international trade and tax matters, both in strategic planning for international transactions and with global trade compliance. He has substantial experience with customs duty savings regimes, including drawback, free trade agreements, foreign trade zones, and valuation methodologies. With Charter, Bill will be very focused on the expanded opportunities for duty drawback under the new Trade Facilitation and Trade Enforcement Act.

Bill has held a number of significant trade and tax positions both in the U.S. and internationally. He has been appointed by the International Chamber of Commerce as an observer to the WTO Technical Committee on Customs Valuation, and serves on the Focus Group on Convergence of Transfer Pricing and Customs Valuation established by the World Customs Organization and the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development. He has served as a committee chair and as a member of the Council of the State Bar of Texas Tax Section, and has chaired working groups for the ABA Customs Law Committee.

Bill is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of the University of Texas, and obtained his J.D. cum laude from the Southern Methodist University School of Law.
